A little five-month-old baby who was found pilled with cocaine and amphetamine has died at the hands of his mother and boyfriend.
Katherine Cox, 33, and Danny Shepherd, 25, were arrested after Eli Cox in hospital less than half a year old on Wednesday, April 27 2016.
A post-mortem revealed the baby had suffered a catastrophic brain injury that was consistent of being shaken and repeatedly hit in the head, in suffering brain damage and 28 bone fractures believed to have been inflicted over a 10-week period.
Both parents denied involvement in the baby’s death but were quickly convicted by Jury at Maidstone Crown Court.
The jury heard that an ambulance was called to Lapwing Close at about 5.30pm on Wednesday April 13 2016 when Eli stopped breathing. He was then taken to Medway Maritime Hospital where a paediatrician noticed a number of bruises that were clearly NOT accidental.
Kent Police were notified and an investigation by the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate was immediately launched.
Evidence obtained from medical experts that Eli’s brain injury in particular must have happened immediately before his collapse.
