A teacher who filmed herself performing a sex act on a 16-year-old male student has been jailed.
Pappas had told her student to skip school on two occasions.
The explicit footage of Ekatherine Pappas, 25, leaked and circulated around the school where she worked showing her engaging in a sex act with her student.
She then attempted to escape the country but police caught and arrested her at an airport.
Pappas pleaded GUILTY to three separate counts of fourth-degree sex offences.
The victim’s father has said the family had been affected “in devastating and profound ways”.
“I cannot begin to explain the terror of being notified that my son had been sexually abused and it was on videotape that had been circulated throughout the school for others to see.
“As a young man, this entire ordeal has been extremely confusing for him, just as it would be for any victim that is exposed to sexual activity before they are at a level of maturity.
“Our home is no longer viewed as a safe environment since it is the location where the assault took place.”
Police announced the charges against the former teacher in January this year, but she had fled the country.
She had bought a ticket to Bogota, Colombia, but was arrested by police at the airport on the same day they interviewed her victim.
Judge Sherrie R. Bailey sentenced Pappas to three years in prison, must also register as a sex offender for 15 years, and five years of “specialised and enhanced supervised probation for sexual offenders”.
