Disgraced kidnap mother Karen Matthews was mobbed by angry locals who claimed she took photographs of children outside a Poundland store.
The 42-year-old, who became notorious after she conspired to have her daughter kidnapped in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, was spotted in the town and got into an argument inside the bargain store.
Her nine-year-old daughter Shannon became the focus of a major police search operation but was found less than a month after going missing in 2008.
Her mother was jailed for eight years and she has now been spotted involved in a heated row with a woman inside the shop after she moved to a new town.
Police were called and spoke to Matthews and the other woman.
Witnesses later claimed Matthews was approached by a group who claimed she and another woman were taking photographs of their children close to the Poundland store.
Matthews relocated to the South East after the dramatisation of her story was televised in a BBC show called The Moorside, which starred actress Sheridan Smith.
A local mother said she spotted Matthews from the window of a bus as it travelled through the town centre.
She said Matthews and another woman appeared to be snapping photos of children on their phones before an angry mob stopped them.
The mother, who did not want to be named, watched the drama unfold outside Sainsbury’s – just yards from Poundland.
She said the crowd was demanding to take Matthews’ phone and delete the pictures of their children and later swamped her.
The woman said: ‘All of a sudden I saw all these people run, and literally shout and throw abuse at her basically. That was outside the Sainsbury’s store.

‘You could tell it was her. And everyone was shouting it too.’
She claimed she didn’t take any photos of Matthews herself, or see anyone else do it.
The woman added: ‘I don’t know exactly what happened, and I don’t know exactly what was said.
‘People were just saying: “Can I have your phone, to remove that picture of my child?”.’
Matthews had to move after people hurled abuse at her when the TV show rekindled interest in her terrible crime.
Despite the changes in appearance, protective mothers have seen her and warned others of her presence in the town.

After the incident, social media was full of vitriolic posts about Matthews being spotted in the town centre.
The poster urged other parents to be on the watch for the ‘evil b****’.
A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said that police were called to a disturbance, involving a woman in her early 40s.
The spokesman said: ‘We were called at 2.45pm on Thursday June 29 to reports of an argument between two women in Poundland.
‘Officers attended, both parties were spoken to and the incident was resolved. No offences have been reported.’
Shannon was eventually found on March 14, 2008, in a house which belonged to Michael Donovan, the uncle of Craig Meehan, who was Matthews’ boyfriend.
Both Donovan and Matthews were convicted of kidnapping, false imprisonment and perverting the course of justice. They were both jailed for eight year
