A convicted rapist was caught by paedophile hunters as he tried to meet a 13-year-old girl.

Alfred Scott travelled to Central Station in Newcastle to meet who he believed was a young girl called Jess after chatting to her on social media website Tagged.

But the fake profile had been set up by undercover organisation Dark Justice, who pose as teen girls online to expose men looking for sex with children.

Newcastle Crown Court heard how the 24-year-old ran away when he was confronted by Dark Justice at the train station and was later arrested by police.

David Crook, prosecuting, told the court how Scott was previously jailed for four-and-a-half years in 2012 for raping a woman.

He added the victim was ‘bitten and slapped’ and had ‘made it clear she wasn’t consenting to the activity’.

The woman was attacked by Scott, who admitted rape, while on her first date after meeting him on the internet.

Scott appeared at court via video link from Durham prison. Mr Crook told the court how Scott sent Jess a message on Tagged in March asking to talk to her and asking how old she was.

He said: ‘She confirmed early on in the conversation that she was 13.’ Mr Crook said Scott continued to talk to her on What’s App, where he operated under the name ‘Alfie L’, and the conversation turned sexual.

He said: ‘The conversation between March and April became sexual in nature.

‘The defendant was reminded by the man purporting to be Jess that Jess was 13.’

Mr Crook said there were references made during the conversation to being ‘horny as hell’ and Scott sent Jess a photograph of a penis.

He said: ‘As a result, following on from that, he invited her to send an sexually explicit photograph of herself, which she didn’t, but did upload a photograph purporting to be of her, but not a naked photograph.’

‘A meeting was set up for 6pm in the evening of April 15.

‘Just after half six that day two of the people of the Dark Justice group, one of them was videoing, went to Central Station to meet the defendant who would have been expecting to meet up with Jess.

‘They recognised him by the photograph he had posted of himself. The defendant when confronted made off.’

The court heard how Scott’s name and description was handed to the police and he was arrested a short time later.

He said: ‘It wasn’t like that, nothing was going to happen, f*** I shouldn’t have come, I knew it was wrong.’

Mr Crook added: ‘He was interviewed and accepted that the conversation became flirty but admitted he knew that Jess had expressed that she was 13.’

The barrister told the court how Scott, also known as Alfred Liddle, has one previous conviction for rape which he described as ‘forced’ and ‘violent’.
