Savile and Thatcher: Time to publish the Chequers lists?

Tony McSweeney Guilty

Father Tony McSweeney has been found guilty on 4 charges . One count indecent assault and three counts of making indecent images of a child.

He was found not guilty on four other charges.

That might be the end of Operation Fernbridge and it will be interesting to see if the police or CPS comment. I’ll wait and see if they do before commenting myself in more detail about Grafton Close and Elm Guest House.

Bernies Call to all Victims / Survivors

Bernies Call

To anyone out there who is a victim/survivor of institutional child abuse. Nothing about this CSA Inquiry is going to be nice. It will bring back awful memories and upset many people who have, to be honest, suffered enough. You have a choice to make. Do you read the news and think that this will never work, or do you push through the pain barrier and help to MAKE it work?
The damage done to victims/survivors will NEVER go away, it will be a part of your life until you die. Nothing can change that. But your perception of it can change. Your perception of yourself can change with it.
We ALL need…

cathy fox blog on child abuse

This is the latest post from North Yorkshire Enquirer, and as their work is so good I urge you to go to their website, and spread their work. By doing this it will help give them a wider support base for any dealings with North Yorkshire Police, who are taking them to court for harassment, as reported in my post [2] . cfb

Citizen Journalists Gagged by North Yorkshire Police Court Action

cathy fox blog on child abuse

North Yorkshire Police have finally found a way to at least temporarily silence the citizen journalists who exposed the Jaconelli /Savile child abuse network in Scarborough when the might of North Yorkshire Police had inexplicably failed to expose it, for 50 years.

jaconnelli cartoon PE_Hibiscus_Cartoon-620x350 North Yorkshire Police, in an extraordinary legal move, are taking civil court action against two journalist Tim Hicks and Nigel Ward. It appears that Chief Constable Dave Jones, two other officers, a retired officer and 5 civilians sought a temporary injunction last week, at an interim hearing in a Leeds Court.  Tim Hicks and Nigel Ward offered to give undertakings to the court. The matter returns next month for a full hearing when the police will be pressing for a full injunction [4]  [32].

Remarkably the North Yorkshire Police claim that they are “victims” of harrassment and that the Police have spent £400,000 of the publics…

Hundreds at risk of child sex abuse ‘still unknown to authorities’

Hundreds of children at risk of sexual exploitation have not yet been identified by the authorities, a new report has warned.

The Office of the Children’s Commissioner (OCC) claims there are wide variations in the rates of child sexual exploitation being reported in different areas across the country, as it reviews efforts to tackle abuse by gangs and groups.

In one cluster of nine local authorities with similar demographics and deprivation levels, rates varied as much as one in 10,000 children to 65 in 10,000 children.

Fewer than half – 48 per cent – of local children’s safeguarding boards said agencies in their area had identified any victims at all.

Chairman of the inquiry and deputy children’s commissioner, Sue Berelowitz, said while many authorities were making good progress, it often had not…

Proposed Guidelines to protect both Music Teachers and Students – a starting point for discussion

Desiring Progress

Yesterday saw the horrendous news of the conviction of and 11-year jail sentence for Philip Pickett on charges of rape and sexual assault of students while he was teaching at the Guildhall School. Here is the original list of charges against Pickett from last year; I do not wish to say much more specific to this case, not least because of the possibility of further trials; suffice to say that I believe a good deal more will be made public about both actions and the complicity of others.

If anything good is to come from this case, I hope it may help to put pressure for a proper international debate about the nature of music education and the possibilities for abuse and exploitation therein. I blogged in some detail about this last December, in response to an excellent article by Damian Thompson in the Spectator. Yesterday…
